The Japanese have a unique kind of artwork called “kintsugi” (to patch in gold) or “kintsukuroi” (to repair with gold). The artist takes a shattered bowl or pitcher and pieces it back together again, sealing the cracks and holes with pure gold. The result is a beautiful piece of artwork, each one piece unique and different from any other. No two pieces of pottery are ever broken in the same way, nor are they repaired in exactly the same pattern. But the result is stunning.
