Death after many years of "reprieve"

We have all been a little shocked and saddened by the quickness of___________'s death. For twenty years she lived under the threat of this day, and for twenty years it seemed to be an idle threat. Then, a couple of months ago, familiar pains revealed the awful truth: the problem was back.In our grief we may want to know answers to impossible questions: Why now? Why after so much time? Why her? Why my wife, my sister, my mother, my daughter, my friend?
