Oracles against Kedar and Hazor: The next oracle moves to a location to the east of Edom (Kedar) and south of there (Hazor). Both are the location of Arabian tribes. Kedar is well known from the Bible and extrabiblical sources. Kedar is first mentioned in Genesis as a descendant of Ishmael. They were sellers of flocks of small animals (Ezek. 27:21). They were known for their black tents (Song. 1:5). “The Kidar were among the most powerful of the northern Arabian Bedouin tribal groups in the period between the 8th and 4th centuries B.C.” (IVPBBCOT, p. 57).
