24/7
Matthew 16:21-28

William Safire has noticed a new computer/business lingo he calls "e-speak." For instance, a writer is called a "content provider." The strength and depth of a company's senior management is called "the bandwidth." The amount of time people spend gazing at a website is called "eyeball hang time." The better a "content provider" you are, the "stickier" the website will be, the longer "eyeball hang time" it will attract, and the happier the bandwidth will be with you. Do you follow?

Instead of seeking consensus, they seek "mind share." "Hardcore" refers not to pornography, but a person's intense dedication to the business. Measurements and evaluation standards are called the "metrix." But the one that drew my attention is "24/7." Observes Safire:

Now, the question that the boys in the bandwidth are asking is, "Is the new secretary 24/7?" This is no lascivious reference to anybody's bust and waist metrix. It has to do with the employee's willingness to be on cell call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Now, as your sermon content provider today, what I want to know is what gets your "eyeball hang time," what are you "hardcore" about, what inspires you to be "24/7?"
