Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee.

Anyone can carry his burden, however hard, until nightfall. Anyone can do his work, however hard, for one day. Anyone can live sweetly, patiently, lovingly, purely, till the sun goes down. And this is all life really means.

Take up the white man's burden - Send forth the best ye breed - Go bind your sons to exile To serve your captives' need.

Without the burden of afflictions it is impossible to reach the height of grace. The gift of grace increases as the struggles increase.

Money and time are the heaviest burdens of life, and the unhappiest of all mortals are those who have more of either than they know how to use.

The burden is equal to the horse's strength.

If you bear the cross unwillingly, you make it a burden, and load yourself more heavily; but you must bear it.

Love feels no burden, regards not labors, strives toward more than it attains, argues not of impossibility, since it believes that it may and can do all things. Therefore it avails for all things, and fulfils and accomplishes much where one not a lover falls and lies helpless.

Love feels no burden, thinks nothing of trouble, attempts what is above its strength, pleads no excuse of impossibility; for it thinks all things lawful for itself, and all things possible.

What a heavy burden is a name that has become too famous.

What makes old age hard to bear is not the failing of one's faculties, mental and physical, but the burden of one's memories.

God gave man work, not to burden him, but to bless him, and useful work, willingly, cheerfully, effectively done, has always been the finest expression of the human spirit.

... best labourer dead And all the sheaves to bind. What need have you to dread The monstrous crying of wind! William Butler Yeats (1865-1939) Begin a Christian, surrendering your life to Jesus, doesn’t mean you don’t take the world seriously or feel the burdens of the world around you. It doesn’t mean you won’t face adversity or come up against some fierce challenges and headwinds. It does mean that when Jesus is your dance partner, you can turn the most undesirous force into a exciting adventure. For ...

... make somebody angry. The Romans demanded heavy taxes from the Jewish people while at the same time oppressing them. We understand taxation without representation. That’s the reason we rebelled against the British. Zealous Jews believed that paying taxes to Rome was not only a burden to them, it was dishonoring to God because it was to God they owed their ultimate allegiance. If Jesus wanted to make himself popular with the Jewish people, he had only to say it was against God’s law to pay taxes to Caesar ...

The people were in shock. Those carried away to exile had the extra burden of being displaced from their home, the Promised Land. As the psalmist cried out during this time of exile: “By the waters of Babylon—there we sat down and there we wept when we remembered Zion.” (Psalm 137:1) That’s the situation that the ...

I’ve run enough long-distance races to take joy in this passage — including the 200 mile Ragnar Relay; not the first shall be last; that has never been my burden, but the last shall be first. Now that gives me hope! As well it should even though I’m confident this parable has absolutely nothing to do with running or any other athletic endeavor, unless one considers gardening to be such. It should be noted too, for the sake of ...

... says, for the disruptive presence of God to break through into your current reality. We don’t often think of God as disruptive. We like to think of our vision of God as a calm, serene, peaceful God, who leads us beside still waters and carries our burdens. But in our scripture for today, we see also the disruptive nature of God, not disruptive in a negative way for those who worship Him. But disruptive to the forces of evil, to sin, to wrongdoing, and to injustice. Even disruption in death. In fact, you ...

This pamphlet was distributed to every member of the British Parliament and helped influence the eventual outlawing of slavery in Great Britain. So imagine how King David’s words sounded to John Newton that day: “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my family, that you have brought me thus far ...

... us and sustains us with His love today. How about you, my friend? Chances are that, before you are through with this life, you will face many hardships and much distress. Have you developed that relationship with God that will give you strength to bear any burden, endure any heartache, be victorious over every evil? One last story.
